🌟 Editor's Note
It’s a bit of a boring week in truck news, with the biggest news - 25% tariffs on heavy truck imports - being nothing more than an announcement that leaves us wondering what will actually change.
📰 This Week’s News
In-Person Renewals for Non-Domiciled CDLs
The FMCSA released a new “interim final” rule requiring non-domiciled CDL holders to renew their CDLs in person, and expect that 194,000 of the current 200,000 non-domiciled CDL holders will not be able to do so over the next two years.
I’ve got questions about if this will actually improve road safety: has any study shown that non-domiciled CDL holders are worse drivers than domiciled CDL holders?
Pay Problems in Truckers Paradise
A few weeks ago I noted the opening of the new Truckers Paradise truck stop in Texas. Well, it seems there’s trouble in paradise, (sorry, I had to). KXII is reporting that employees of Truckers Paradise are not being paid on time, or in some cases at all. Truckers Paradise seems like a good idea, hopefully they can sort out their issues and make it work.
An Appreciated Driver
At least one driver felt appreciated during Truck Driver Appreciation Week last week. A driver posted on Reddit that he was delivering in front of a dollar store and a customer and their child gave the driver some snacks and said they wanted to do something nice for truck driver appreciation week. It sounds like they made the driver’s week!
🅿️ New Truck Stops
A new Prime Stop had its opening Norfolk, NE this week along highway 275.
Till next time,
