📰 This Week’s Stories
Hours of Service Flexibility Pilot Program
A pilot program has been announced that will allow about 500 drivers to test new, more flexibly HOS options, including putting the 14-hour driving window on pause for up to 3 hours, dividing the 10-hour off-duty window into 5/5 or 6/4 chunks, and additional sleeper berth split options.
As someone believes sleep is essential, I am skeptical that splitting the 10-hour off-duty window can be done safely, and I worry it will be used to put tired drivers on the roads.
Bill to Ban Predatory Truck Leases
Julia Brownley has introduced a bill to the US House of Representatives to try to ban predatory truck leases. These predatory leases sound like they border on indentured servitude, so hopefully the bill is successful.
Driver FAFO’ed with an Unpermitted Oversize Load
A driver tried to take an unpermitted oversized load through the Green River tunnel in Wisconsin - where even permitted oversized loads are not allowed! The driver was stopped before he got to the tunnel and fined $800, which is a lot, but seems like maybe it’s not enough for such a big screwup?
